We work everyday to end cancer as we know it, for everyone, through breakthrough research, a 24/7 cancer helpline, free rides to chemo, and free lodging near treatment.

We save lives by empowering communities everywhere to take steps that can reduce their cancer risk.

We promote healthy lifestyles by issuing cancer guidelines for early detection, helping people avoid tobacco, and reducing barriers to healthy eating and exercise.
Our toll-free information line - 1-800-227-2345 and website - are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering crucial patient services to everyone touched by cancer.

We work with lawmakers everywhere to make our world a healthier place to live, and we rally communities around the globe to support our lifesaving mission.

The American Cancer Society is on a mission to free the world from cancer. For more than 100 years, we have helped lead an evolution in the way the world prevents, detects, treats, and thinks about cancer. As the nation’s preeminent cancer-fighting organization, we fund and conduct research, share expert information, support people with cancer, spread the word about prevention, and through our advocacy affiliate, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), advocate for public policy change. We are committed to ensuring that ALL people have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, find, treat, and survive cancer – regardless of income, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, or where they live.

How is the American Cancer Society making a difference?

  • We are currently investing more than $400 million in cancer research grants at hundreds of institutions across the US (as of January 2023).

  • We've become experts in identifying visionary scientists early in their careers, and our track record speaks for itself, as 50 of our funded researchers are Nobel Laureates.

  • Today, 85% of children with cancer survive five years or more.

  • ACS has contributed to a 33% decline in cancer death rates in the US since 1991. That means we've helped save more than 3.8 million lives during that time.

  • Each year, our programs and services touch more than 54.5 million lives!

  • We're a trusted resource for the more than 130 million visitors each year to where we offer the latest information and news on cancer and help connect people to crucial patient services.
